A pair of shags

 Watching Out
Many of the shags' nests on Staple Island are occupied by a pair of the birds. These two seemed content to watc the antics of all the visitors, passing only a few feet from the nest. The shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis) is a close relative of the larger cormorant, and has emerald-green eyes, bright yellow throats and gape, iridescent green breeding plumage and a distinctive crest.
