staying in Page, at the tip of Lake Powell, we went on a tour of the
"Secret Canyon" on Navaho land just outside the town. This was a much
quieter location than the nearby Antelope Canyon, and stunningly
beautiful. The sculptured contours of the narrow rock walls, carved by
the regular flow of flash floods, form smooth patterns, lit by sunlight
filtering down from the top. The photographic challenge here was coping
with generally low light conditions (with no tripod), coupled with high
contrast from the sunlit areas. This rock formation - with the 'tongue'
being about a metre in length - was particularly photogenic.
